MACA POWDER

Maca is a plant that some populations in Peru have used for thousands of years as a food and medicine. In the last few decades, Maca has become popular around the world as a natural remedy for certain health problems, including infertility and low sex drive.

What is Maca?
The maca plant, scientifically known as Lepidium meyenii, is sometimes referred to as Peruvian ginseng. Maca is a cruciferous vegetable related to broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage and kale. Maca grows in the high plateaus of the Peruvian Andes. In fact, the Andean people have been growing maca for more than 2,000 years. It is one of the few edible plants that can survive harsh weather conditions above 4,000 metres.

Traditionally, the Andean people used maca as a food, consuming it in fermented drinks or porridge. In addition, the Andean people used maca as a natural medicine to treat various health conditions such as respiratory conditions and rheumatic diseases. Due to the increase in global demand for maca, people began to mass produce the plant in other parts of the world, including the mountainous province of Yunnan in China.

What does Maca contain?
Maca root, the most commonly used part of the plant, contains fiber, amino acids, vitamins and minerals. It also contains other bioactive compounds, including macamides, macaridine, alkaloids and glucosinolates, which are thought to be responsible for the medicinal effects of maca. Although people claim that maca supports health in many ways, research is currently limited and the results of studies on its effects are mixed. More research is needed on the effectiveness of maca.
